With pet guns, amorphous mutants, and a series of procedurally generated ships to raid, Pet Project Games’ Ripout is heading to Gamescom.
Rip ’em out
If you’ve been reading BG over the last few months, you might’ve seen our impressions of Ripout. From Pet Project Games, Ripout sets players in the shoes of one of humanity’s last defenders. It’s full of great ideas, some of which are pretty innovative.
Cast as a defender of the last remaining humans, players are tasked with invading a series of procedurally generated spacecraft. There they’ll find a cadre of monstrous enemies awaiting, all of which used to be human, but have been twisted by a malevolent AI. It’s kind of one part System Shock and one part Battlestar Galactica, and it works really well. You can read our thoughts on it here.
If you’re itching to play Ripout, and you’re going to the Gamescom show, then you’re in luck. Publisher 3D Realms has announced that the title will be in attendance, and it will be playable.
- Cooperative PVE Gameplay – Embark on a variety of missions and explore derelict ships alone or in small teams.
- Your Weapon Is Your Pet – Play with the unique PetGun, a living being you can transform and evolve with powerful upgrades to take enemies apart in fun ways.
- High Variety of Reconfigurable Monsters – Fight genetically altered beings who are able to strengthen and reconfigure themselves by attaching smaller mutants to their bodies. The player will never know what to expect from their enemies!
3D Realms press release
Ripout will be showing in Hall 8.1, and in stand C030. Single player and co-op modes will be available to try. Obviously, since the levels are all procedural, this won’t be something that you’ve played before even if you have tried the demo.
Gamescom 2022 is once again set in Cologne, and will be taking place August 24th through the 28th.
