Spyro gets the N.Sane treatment with the Reignited Trilogy, hitting this fall

Fans of the little purple dragon should be very pleased indeed. The rumors have finally come true, and Activision has Spyro ready to rock once again, in the Reignited Trilogy.

Reignited and it feels so good

It’s been a good long time since Spyro had a traditional game. Sure he’s been one of the stars of the Skylanders games, but those don’t count to fans of the solo Spyro titles. Much like followers of the nutty Bandicoot though, your patience is about to pay off. That’s because the Reignited Trilogy looks fantastic.

That’s from Toys for Bob, by the way. You may or may not know them from those Skylanders games. Quite a difference in those split-screen shots too, huh?

As I mentioned earlier, this set of three games looks much the same as the Crash collection. All three have been completely rebuilt. And you bet that they look as though they rolled out of development for the first time, as modern adventures.

Though they might look new though, these titles will all have the same action that you remember from the PSOne days of the franchise. A fact that was important to the development team.

“We’re deeply passionate about staying true to the legacy of the original three Spyro games with the Spyro Reignited Trilogy,” said Paul Yan, Chief Creative Officer, at Toys For Bob. “We’ve poured a lot of love into making the personalities and worlds feel just like fans remember them, while also keeping the game collection surprisingly fresh with lush, high definition detail. We’re bringing back the Spyro we all fell in love with 20 years ago.”

Keeping with that though, the original Spyro voice actor, Tom Kenny, is returning to action. The original Stewart Copeland soundtrack will be coming back as well, though in a beefed up, reimagined form.

Burning up the platforms

Also pretty cool is that this particular monster won’t be as limited as Crash was in terms of launch platforms. Spyro: Reignited Trilogy will be coming to not only the PS4, but the Xbox One as well, when it arrives this September the 21st. You’ll notice that there’s no Switch version announced just yet. Since Crash is heading to Nintendo’s console though, I’d imagine that that might not be too far off, so stay tuned.

Oh, and you can actually get a very brief taste of what’s to come right now. How you ask? By inputing a riff on a pretty famous code at the Crash 3: Warped title screen, in the PS4 version of the N.Sane Trilogy. Just press “↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → square” and you’ll be greeted with the the Reignited Trilogy trailer. Yeah, it’s just the trailer that’s embedded above, but it’s still kind of neat.
