Open-World survival horror FPS P.A.M.E.L.A. gets the green light on Steam

Think you can you survive P.A.M.E.L.A.’s future utopia gone wrong?

Nice and tense right there, with some startlingly good graphics and a really nice vibe. P.A.M.E.L.A., as you might have guessed, is the robotic/holographic woman seen in the trailer. You, on the other hand, play a sleeper.

Awakened from cryo-sleep as an emergency has erupted on the world of Eden, you and Pamela (she’s referred to both with and without the acronym) must traverse the former utopia that ran away with the idea of bio-perfection and technology. Though what happened exactly is still a mystery, developer NVYVE says that there are several different factions operating within Eden.

Among others, there are security droids, robotic custodians, and the Afflicted, with that last one being the game’s seeming hook. The Afflicted are people in constant pain and with “horrible” disfigurements, led to a constantly enraged state by their condition. It certainly sounds like what happened to them was of their own doing, though I suppose that’s set to be one of the plot’s big surprises.

NVYVE says that the enemies will all have differing behavior, and react in unique ways to you as you “invade” their home. Likewise, what you do and which choices you make will have different effects on the world of Eden. You’ll also be able to syphon power away from the city to help you on your journey, though if you take too much you’ll plunge the sector into blackout- and that’s not a great idea.

And much like the victims of whatever plague has devastated Eden, you’ll also be able to fit yourself with “Bio-Augmentations” to combat the horrors that lay in wait. Though if you go wild with those augs, it sounds like you just might find yourself joining the Afflicted.

With a kind of Elysium meets BioShock premise, this is definitely one to watch folks, so keep an eye out for P.A.M.E.L.A., making its way to the PC in 2016.
