New Super Lucky’s Tale is making its way to PS5. The colorful and family-friendly platformer makes the leap from last to current-gen in March.
Lucky’s Tale returns
Well, it’s been a while. For the uninitiated, Super Lucky’s Tale (without the “New”) spun out of Playful Studios and publisher PQube, and first arrived on the scene way back in 2017. The title had a kid and family-friendly tilt to it, harkening back to the 3D platformers of yesteryear.
A brave little fox (named Lucky) was the star. Players took control of him as he made his way through a series of worlds, questing to both get home and defeat the Kitty Litter, a cadre of felonious felines. Lucky originally appeared on the Oculus Rift, before jumping to more traditional platforms. That included the Xbox One, which we published a review for here.
He didn’t stop there though, as it wasn’t too long before New Super Lucky’s Tale made its debut. That revamp of the original improved on the game in a few ways, and saw it appear for even more platforms, like Nintendo’s original Switch.
Here we are in 2026 though, and Lucky’s ready to come back one more time.
Same fox, new platform
This time around New Super Lucky’s Tale is making its way to the PS5. Sony’s latest console will get that upgraded incarnation of the original, though it sounds like it’s seeing even further improvements. Those would be a “smoother, more responsive way to play”, according to the press release.
To that end, the game will feature an impressive 120fps and stock 4K support. Being that this is the PS5 that we’re talking about too, fans can look for some DualSense buffs. PQube says that players will be able to “feel Lucky’s actions as they jump, spin, explore and uncover secrets along the way.”
New Super Lucky’s Tale is heading to the PS5 with both digital and physical editions, and will land on March 26th, 2026. Along with the standalone new version of the game, those who own the PS4 version will also find an upgrade path. Players looking to experience the game again, with the new PS5 additions, will be able to do so without buying the full version again. Instead, they’ll be able to pick up a digital upgrade for $4.99 USD. Not too shabby.
If you’re on the fence about it too, feel free to check out our review that we mentioned above. We tagged the game with a very respectable 81%, digging its gameplay and colorful looks.
