Dark Horse’s new He-Man ongoing starts with fifth issue

He-Man is heading back to Dark Horse Comics, even though he never left. The publisher’s new ongoing series will pick up from a miniseries.

We can hear that Filmation jingle now

As fans well know, He-Man has a pretty deep history with Dark Horse Comics. The publisher has brought a host of hardcover books to retail featuring the 80s barbarian. Not that that was all though, as there’ve also bee a monster line of miniseries’. Most of those have varied wildly from one another, taking place in different envisionings of the brand. But that’s not going to be the case for long.

Now officially coming up from Dark Horse and Mattel is an ongoing series. Entitled He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, this new book actually picks up its action from the latest mini, which ended with issue #4. The title begins in the ancient past of Preternia, before rejoining the heroes and villains in the Eternia fans know.

It’ll continue the tale told in the Sword of Flaws arc, with The Battle of Snake Mountain, and hail from some MOTU vets. Tim Seeley is chief among those, with the writer being relatively fresh off of his work in Masters of the Universe/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles of Grayskull. He’ll be joined by artist Reilly Brown as well, whom you might know from Masters of the Universe: Phantoms of Despair. The team will be rounded out by former Spidey colorist Jim Charalampidis, and AndWorld Design on lettering.

He-Man returns, and so does Skeletor’s power sword

THE POWER SWORD, a weapon able to access the power and wisdom of Grayskull, was forged by the most powerful sorcerer in the Universe—HE-RO. It was ordained that the sword would be given to a great champion to protect the Realm in times of need.

But He-Ro grew concerned that all the power and knowledge in the universe might be too much for one man. So, he created another blade—one which could be used only if a champion became a tyrant. But an accident corrupted the alternate blade, transforming it into something evil, tainting its metal violet. He-Ro had unintentionally created THE SWORD OF FLAWS. Realizing the horror of his creation, He-Ro left Grayskull and spent years of his life crossing Eternia to find a place to hide the sword. And there, the Sword of Flaws remained safely hidden. Until now…

After the great battle at Heaven Piercer, the Sword of Flaws has fallen into Skeletor’s hands. And with this mystic power, Skeletor is a greater threat than ever before. Can He-Man and the Heroic Warriors stop him before he becomes MASTER OF THE UNIVERSE?

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe #5 will be available in comic shops on March 25, 2026.
