Landing the day before Halloween, the GameCube’s Luigi’s Mansion is set to join Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack for Switch 2.
Luigi’s Mansion returns
As fans know, the Switch family of consoles already has ports of Luigi’s Mansion 2 and 3. While those games are Switch games, they’re both fully playable on the backwards compatible Switch 2 as well. So with that in mind, it’s only fitting that the 2001 original would make an appearance as well. But hang on, because things will be a little different this time.
The latter two releases in the trilogy are full retail titles, which again are playable via Switch or Switch 2. This new arrival though, will only be for Nintendo’s latest and greatest. And if you guessed that the reason would be because it’s a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack game, you’d be right. Well, you either guessed or you read the intro. Whatever.
As a part of the subscription service, all hosted GameCube games are only playable via the Switch 2. It’s a nice little exclusive for owners of the console, though honestly, the collection is pretty small at present. That set of games will get a tad larger though, with the addition of this classic, landing to scare up a little Halloween fun.
Luigi wins a stately mansion, but he’s in for a ghastly surprise when he creeps through its front door and learns that his magnificent manor is teeming with ghosts. And worse yet, Mario is nowhere to be found!
Enter Luigi’s Mansion, where a gallery of ghouls haunt the halls, secrets wait to be unearthed, and Luigi is … not the most courageous character around. Luckily, Professor E. Gadd is on the scene, and he has the perfect tools for the occasion! Play as Luigi, capture ghosts with the Poltergust 3000, track his items and whereabouts with the Game Boy™Horror device, and help save Mario from a frightening fate in this action-adventure game originally released for the Nintendo GameCube system in 2001.
Nintendo press release
If you have a Switch 2, and you’re a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack member, you’re ready to roll into Luigi’s Mansion. The game will be posted for subscribers on October 30th too, just in time for this year’s haunting holiday.
