Call of Duty: Black Ops 7’s zombies mode gets a soul-ripping new trailer

Zombies mode returns for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, and it’s looking wilder than ever. Get ready for a trip into the Dar Aether.

Call of Duty dives between dimensions

While we’ve seen a fair shake of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7‘s action thus far, it’s been mainly limited to the campaign and multiplayer. And while those are both huge modes for the upcoming first-person shooter, there’s a third branch to the action. Of course, we’re talking about the Zombies mode.

A mainstay for Call of Duty titles since 2008’s World at War, zombies started simple enough, tossing waves of undead at players. It was a tacked on mode that was bigger than the sum of its parts though, grabbing legions of fans all by itself. As a result, it got bigger and bigger. And that leads us to the 2025 incarnation, a mode that looks to add, but also begin something new.

Activision just shared a deeper look at the story that’ll be playing out in the mode’s latest revision. It looks like a ripper too, as in ‘soul-ripping’. The cinematic trailer shows a pair of teams, both of which are trapped in the Dark Aether.

What’s old is new

Most players should be familiar with the team that’s found itself transported to the Dark Aether dimension. Those would be Maya, Carver, Weaver, and Grey. Just why it is that victory in their last adventure led to them getting swallowed up by this new horror, is still a mystery though.

And as you can see above, they’re not alone. Joining the quartet we just named will be versions of Dempsey, Nikolai, Takeo, and Richtofen. Yep, the original team of zombie-smashers is back in acton… or, are they?

Well, the short answer is ‘no’, they’re not. Activision and developer Treyarch are saying that these four men are “never-before-seen incarnations of the original Zombies crew”. So, if they’re not the same, then who are they and what part do they have to play in this alternate world of the undead?

You’ll have to wait just a little longer to find out the answers to those questions, as Activision will be holding a deeper dive into Zombies next week. There’s no date just yet, but keep watching for the announcement. We imagine it has to be coming up sooner than later.

And in the meantime, if you’d like to read more about the cinematic, and maybe get a few hints as to what’s coming, click here for the official site.
