A fresh teaser has been released by resurgent publisher Acclaim, along with a date for the company’s comeback showcase.
Don’t call it a reboot
As you read right here at BG not long ago, Acclaim is indeed coming back. First revealed in the spring of this year, the publisher has now released something of a barrage of press, with a pair of teasers and a word of a comeback stream called the Play Acclaim Showcase, set for next month.
Acclaim is, of course, a pretty heavy name in the history of video gaming. The publisher produced a series of massive titles throughout the 80s and 90s, before shutting down in the 2K’s. That fallow season though, appears to be over, as Acclaim is setting up for a big rebirth. That’s what they’re calling it anyway.
We’re not sure just what Acclaim will have on tap for that above mentioned event, but apparently there are some hints in a newly launched video. Fair warning, we watched the below vid more than a few times, and came up with some instances that might be teases at new games, but we’re far from sure that we’re right.
Check it out yourself, and see if you can glean some hints from the moments woven between the static.
“We’re not here to chase ghosts,” said Alex Josef, CEO of Acclaim. “We’re here to take the energy and chaos that made Acclaim unforgettable and channel it into something new. The old screens are cracking, and what’s coming through is something exciting and different.”
This isn’t nostalgia for its own sake. It’s something else: a kind of retrofuture-nostalgia, paying homage to, and embracing the brand’s unmistakable DNA and history while charting a bold new course into the future.

Interesting statements. Could we be looking at a mixture of wholly new and reimagined Acclaim classics in this new era? We’re hesitant to run down the list of what we’d like to see mixed in with that, but there are more than a handful. So, basically, fingers crossed for September 10th.
That’s right, the big Play Acclaim Showcase is coming up fast. The show is set to debut on the company’s YouTube channel on September 10th, kicking off at 2:30pm eastern time.
