A co-op FPS coming to consoles and PC in 2026, John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando will pit players against hordes of foes.
Sludge for the Sludge God
Revealed a while back, the full curtain has been pulled back on John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando at Gamescom today. The title will send players into a pretty unique post-apocalyptic world, courtesy of horror legend John Carpenter, publisher Focus Entertainment, and… Saber Interactive. We put it like that because Toxic Commando is a first-person shooter/off-road driver that takes place in a world that’s been overrun by a “Sludge God” and its endless hordes of the undead.
If you know anything about Saber Interactive, then you know the developer’s Swarm Engine powered the likes of World War Z: Aftermath and last year’s Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. We’re sure you can use your imagination on what that means, but we’ll spoil it for you all the same: Toxic Commando is going to throw legions of zombies at you. Not that that’s all this title will include though.
According to Focus Entertainment, Toxic Commando will sport some serious “buddy-movie vibes”, complete with plenty of humor and of course all-out action. On that last note too, the press release specifically mentions that the game will be fueled by the “horror of classic ‘80s cinema”.
With John Carpenter involved, we don’t doubt that for one second.
In the near future, an experimental attempt to harness the power of the Earth’s core ends in a terrifying disaster, turning soil to scum and the living to undead monsters. However, the genius behind the experiment has a plan to make things right: a team of highly trained mercenaries to get the job done. Unfortunately, they were all too expensive. That’s why he hired THE TOXIC COMMANDO.
