Mafia: The Old Country launches onto consoles and the PC

The latest installment of the Mafia series is a prequel, bringing the action back to where it all began and the roots of organized crime.

Bringing the old ways back to life is Mafia: The Old Country, the latest addition to the long running Mafia series from 2K and developer Hanger 13. As mentioned above, this one is a little different than all of the others in the set, in that it doesn’t take place on the streets of America.

Instead, fans will find the dirt roads and countryside villas of Sicily in the 1900’s. Of course, that change of nations and time periods also means a new main character, and to that end players will slip into the shoes of Enzo Favara. A young man who rises from the brutal sulphur mines of Sicily, Enzo looks to prove how much he’s worth to Don Torrisi and his family.

According to 2K, fans can expect “grounded and dangerous” combat in Mafia: The Old Country. From the press release, that’s going to shake out to mean “high-stakes stealth, brutal knife fights, and intense gunplay mechanics”.

Mafia: The Old Country is out now for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with a pair of editions. There’s the standard of course, which is joined by the Deluxe Edition. While the former has a boxed version as well, the latter is digital-only and includes a selection of bonus items. Scroll down for the rundown.
