Turtle Beach unveils three new Xbox and PC controller options for racing fans

A fresh stable of controller options are getting ready for race day from Turtle Beach, for both hardcore and casual genre fans.

Gentlemen, start your controllers

When it comes to racing games, having a great controller to pair with them can actually add quite a bit. Sure, for most fans, it might be comfy enough to play a racer with a stock pad. But there’s little denying that having an actual wheel and maybe some pedals, can make the experience much more authentic.

To that end, gaming accessory and peripheral giant Turtle Beach is launching what feels like a whole new line for Xbox and PC. We say that, because normally we might see one or two related announcements from a company, as go controllers (etc), but this new set of reveals is in triplicate. And not only that, but it covers multiple levels of the race genre’s fandom.

Targeted towards the more casual fan, for example, is the Turtle Beach Racer wireless wheel. Connecting with a 2.4GHz low latency wireless connection and packing an up to 30-foot range with up to 30-hours of battery, this bad boy can work as a tabletop option, or right on your lap. It’s also got some great looks, designed to mimic a real steering wheel and has a “controller mode”. What’s that? Why, it’s a mode that slips the wheel into a different gear, allowing it to be used in games that don’t normally support wheel peripherals.

Moving up the track a little more, there’s also the VelocityOne F-RX. Looking like it’d be right at home in a vehicle built for light-speed, this wheel works with the VelocityOne system and stocks an aluminum design, plus a special nod to gear-shifting with an “LED RPM Dashboard”, and “ten mechanical switches with RGB backlighting and five rotary dials”, according to Turtle Beach. It’s also flat-out one of the coolest looking controllers of its kind that we’ve seen, but that’s kind of besides the point.

And finally, right at the top of the range sits the VelocityOne Race KD3. A wheel and pedals system, the VelocityOne Race KD3 looks to deliver the most authentic experience, and comes complete with the “K: Drive direct-drive motor“. According to Turtle Beach, that should deliver “3.2Nm of force feedback with ultra-low latency and up to 2,160° of rotation”.

You can find the full details on all three of the controllers listed above, below. Again, all are compatible with the Xbox and PC, plus Android 8.0+ devices that have Bluetooth 4.2 or later. The whole lineup will be shipping out this September 9th, and all are ready for pre-order now via Turtle Beach’s online shop.
