Take a deep dive into the sword-slashing gameplay of Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound

Dotemu and The Game Kitchen have unleashed a deeper look at the action of upcoming side-scroller Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound.

Feel the rage

It’s a good year to be a side-scrolling ninja action fan. And part of the reason for that, is Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound. A hack and slash title that’s set to bring the classic property back to its roots, Ragebound hails from Dotemu and developer The Game Kitchen, and looks to be quite promising indeed.

While we’ve seen it in action before, Dotemu just unleashed a new 14 minute deep dive that not only showcases a new level, but also plenty of action. On display are the basic attack skills of both of the titles heroes, plus some special weapons (like the chakram).

But that’s not all, as fans will also get a look at how parts of levels will have to be altered as they’re traversed, and the ability to switch between Kumori and Kenji.

Follow Kumori and Kenji while they navigate a high-rise building under construction teeming with demons. As the ninjas ascend the skeletal tower, they’re relentlessly hunted by Rhyvashi, the level’s boss, who tries to thwart their progress with brutal area attacks. Players must master precision and timing to evade these attacks while simultaneously eliminating enemies.

After being chased by a bulldozer, the level culminates in an underground face-off with Rhyvashi, where Kumori and Kenji must skillfully plan attacks in between her onslaught of claw swipes, falling spikes, and electric orbs to continue to the next stage.

In addition to the combat, this new footage highlights the game’s robust upgrade and shop systems. In the shop, players can acquire Talismans, passive abilities that support a more defensive playstyle, or Secret Arts, which serve as powerful weapons and active abilities for more aggressive combat strategies

Dotemu press release

Stoked for a little old school-ish ninjitsu? Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound arrives for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC on July 31st.
