Venom #250 brings Knull back for a brand new symbiotic saga

The king is back. Marvel Comics is bringing the King in Black back from the dead, with Knull facing off with the new Venom.

Somehow, Knull returned

Remember the King in Black? The massive Marvel Comics event saw the rise and fall of the god of the symbiotes, Knull. The vicious cosmic being laid siege to Earth, eventually battling Venom and being slain by him. Since then, Knull hasn’t appeared in Marvel’s comics, though that’s about to change.

The arch-villain returns from the void in October’s Venom #250, and when he does, he’ll find that the Venom he knew is gone. Of course, that’s because the symbiote has been re-bonded to Mary Jane Watson, which will result in a first-time face-off for both characters. It also seems like it’s just the tip of the iceberg for what writer Al Ewing and artist Terry Dodson have in store, as Marvel Comics says the issue will kick off a whole new “major symbiote saga”.

But that’s not all that issue #250 will include either, as fans can also look for a backup tale. That seems like it might hit the spot for legacy fans, as it’ll feature Eddie Brock, in action from Venom-alums Charles Soule and Carlos Gomez.

THE RETURN OF KNULL!

Mary Jane Watson is finally in the swing of things as the new Venom host, using their powers in all-new ways to be the hero the symbiote never knew it could be! But as she cleans up the streets of New York, she remains blissfully unaware of the strands of darkness leading off into the darkness of the void. Knull, the creator of all symbiotes, was killed by Eddie Brock. Nothing could bring him back… but Knull rules over nothing. Knull has returned, and word is racing across the stars to the one who took him down before to prepare to do it again. Will Venom be ready?

On Knull’s appeal, Ewing said, “When Donny and Ryan brought Knull into being, they created the first new villain in a while with what I’d call ‘big villain juice.’ He’s visually arresting, you know what he wants in one sentence, you can’t talk him out of it, he’s powerful enough to hold down a crossover… and he was given the wonderful luxury of going away for a while. When a big bad is allowed to lay fallow and drift into memory, what’s remembered is all the things readers liked about them – and that’s when it’s time for a comeback. The final ingredient in a good villain – they may be down, but they’re never out.”

Marvel Comics press release

With a cover from Ryan Stegman, Venom #250 hits the stands on October 1st, 2025. As a very cool and most welcome note too, Marvel says that the book will retain its legacy numbering from that point on too. So, in other words, November will bring Venom #251.
