Retroware’s Toxic Crusaders beat ’em up gets a radioactive new gameplay trailer

Set to bring the Troma’s Toxic Crusaders back to life this year is Retroware, and the developer has a fresh look at the game in action.

From New Jersey to you

It’s been a while, especially if you’re the impatient type, but Retroware’s excellent looking Toxic Crusaders beat ’em up is still very much on track. The side-scrolling action game will bring a total of seven playable characters to life some time this fall, for a battle against the villainous Dr. Killemoff.

Today’s footage showcases that cast, as well as the ability to switch heroes on the fly, between two selected Toxic Crusaders. Did somebody say ‘tag team action’? Well, yeah, kinda. In all, the game will include all the names fans of the classic cartoon series should be familiar with, like Toxie, Headbanger, Major Disaster, Yvonne, Nozone, Junkyard, and… Mrs. Junko. Yes, you can play as Toxie’s mom.

Hey, this is Tromaville, anything goes.

The Toxic Crusaders are back to defend Tromaville against the evil Dr. Killemoff and his army of Radiation Rangers. With local co-op, you can grab up to four friends and take on the forces of Smogula across a variety of vibrant pixel-art levels. Choose from seven playable characters and dive into an action-packed, pun-filled adventure that’ll drag you through the wonderful world of Troma!

Retroware press release

Toxic Crusaders will be ready to mop the floor with the Radiation Rangers some time in the third quarter of this year, for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Fans should stay tuned for the Troma Panel at San Diego Comic Con next month as well, as Retroware says that “a major announcement” will be made about the game.
