A comic book sequel to the classic 90s Spider-Man cartoon is on the way this fall

While it’s not the animated series that some fans were clamoring for, Spider-Man ’94 will serve as the official sequel to the 90s cartoon.

Swinging onto the printed page

Premiering in 1994 and running for five seasons, Marvel’s Spider-Man: The Animated Series was one of a handful of superhero shows that set the standard. If you were a superhero fan, the 90s was (and really still is) the high water mark for comics being brought to animation.

This particular show adapted the familiar story of Peter Parker/Spider-Man, and created some of the most memorable versions of Spidey’s cadre of characters to ever see life in any medium. Like its contemporaries, it also trod the line of adaption and originality, telling particular versions of Spidey’s comic book stories, as well as some all-new tales. One of the latter too, was never seen to its conclusion.

If you don’t know, the series ended on a cliffhanger, as the wall-crawler embarked on a quest to save the love of his life, Mary Jane, with the aid of Madame Web. Longtime fans know that well of course, and have been itching to see if Marvel would treat Spidey to a sequel-series, in the mold of X-Men ’97. The answer, as you can see, is both yes and no.

That’s because, while it won’t be animated on Disney Plus, there will be an official sequel, but in the form of a five issue mini-series that’ll be heading to stores this September. Read on for the full story on Spider-Man ’94.
