The Switch 2 sells 3.5 Million Units in its first four days

So much for the online furor about pricing, as Nintendo’s Switch 2 console has already rumbled its way to 3.5 million in sales.

Sequel smash

If you missed what we’re referring to above, there was a not insignificant amount of derision online before the Switch 2‘s launch. That began when the console was first fully revealed in a Nintendo Direct and series of Clubhouse shows, and really never tapered off that much.

Fans were up in arms about the steep pricing for one thing, but also about the lack of ‘Nintendo’ launch titles, and what was a sense of sameness. The Switch 2 is not a radical departure from the original Switch, in terms of overall look, and for those who like to see Nintendo innovate with every console launch, that might’ve been a bit of a bummer. But even with all of the above in tow, you sure as heck can’t say the launch was a bad one. Actually, it was a smash that Nintendo says is the “fastest-selling Nintendo game system ever”.

According to the company, the Switch 2 has sold some 3.5 million units in its first four days on the market. Want to compare apples to apples? How this one sit: the original Switch moved around 2.74 million consoles, and that was over its first month. According to some outlets too, Switch 2 sales already best the PS5’s launch numbers over its first entire month of sale.

From the looks of it, the Switch 2 is set to do just fine, and might even double up on that 3.5 million number if retail stocks can get consistent replenishment.

“Fans around the world are showing their enthusiasm for Nintendo Switch 2 as an upgraded way to play at home and on the go,” said Nintendo of America President and Chief Operating Officer Doug Bowser. “We are thankful for their response and happy to see the fun they are already having with Nintendo Switch 2 as they explore new features and games that bring friends and family together in new ways.”

Nintendo press release

The Nintendo Switch 2 is available now, and comes in both a standard edition for $449.99 USD and a bundle with a digital copy of Mario Kart World for $499.99 USD.
