Nintendo’s follow-up to the smash hit original Switch, the Switch 2 has landed, along with the first wholly new Mario Kart since 2014.
So did you get one?
Did you get a Nintendo Switch 2 console? Posted for pre-order last in late April, the consoles went like hotcakes, selling through in a shockingly short period of time. That might seem like an odd thing to say, since this is a Nintendo console that we’re talking about, but don’t forget that there was a minor online furor over the pricing at the time.
If you did manage to get one for yourself, then dig in, because you’re good to go for the next generation of Switch. As Nintendo points out, that’s a gen that starts with the brand new Mario Kart World, the first MK since Mario Kart 8 debuted on the aforementioned Wii U about eleven years back.
The little console looks poised to pick up the mantle of the original Switch with some hefty additions too. The Switch 2 features mouse capabilities that should come in handy for titles like Metroid Prime 4, plus a 7.9″ 1080p screen, dual USB-C ports, magnetic joy-con 2 controllers, a dock that’ll output up to 4K, spatial 3D sound (in handheld and tabletop modes), and even video chat via an optional camera.
While it might have roughly the same form factor, the Switch 2 certainly looks to have a solid amount of ‘new’ under the hood.
The Joy-Con 2 controllers are snapped in place, the bigger, bolder screen is lit up, and Mario and friends are revving their rides for the biggest Mario Kart yet. It’s official: the Nintendo Switch 2 system, the Mario Kart World game and over 20 titles are now available to power up your play.
Today, Nintendo launched its first brand-new gaming platform in eight years with Nintendo Switch 2, and the latest Mario Kart game for consoles in over a decade with Mario Kart World. Nintendo Switch 2 brings to life new ways to connect and play with friends and family with new features and reimagined online capabilities such as GameChat1. Mario Kart World allows players to hit the road in a vast interconnected playground where the world is their racetrack. Further, the Nintendo Switch 2 launch lineup features acclaimed titles from Nintendo’s global publishing and development partners, such as Split Fiction, Street Fighter 6, Sid Meier’s Civilization® VII – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition and more. Together, these new experiences mark a leap forward in Nintendo’s mission to deliver smiles to people the world over – All Together, Anytime, Anywhere.
