A 90s property with bite, Street Sharks is coming to comics

Another one of Mattel’s classic cartoons is coming back around, this time it’s Street Sharks, set to take a bit out of comics racks this fall.

Jawsome

If you were a kid in the 1990s, chances are you remember Street Sharks. The now-classic property made a splash with a set of mutated brothers, each one having the look and abilities of a different kind of shark. Naturally, the bros became heroes in the metropolis of Fission City, and they battled against the evil Dr. Piranoid.

The show was no one hit wonder, with 40 episodes to its name, running from ’94 through ’97, becoming a hit with the younger set. Its name seems to pop up from time to time now as well, as a property that fans would love to see make a comeback.

If you’re one of the hopeful, you’ll definitely want to take a look at what what’s swimming around in the comic book-waters, since it seems as though it’s finally time for the Sharks to swim. Fresh off the toys reappearing with a new collector-focused line, the Street Sharks are indeed set to hit the comics racks.

IDW Publishing just revealed the first info about a new mini-series, which will debut with a five issue run this September. Writer Stephanie Williams will take up the story chores for the book, with Ariel Medel attached for the interior art.

Based on the classic animated series, the upcoming comics will thrill readers as the Sharks protect Fission City from a range of gene-slammed threats, including super-strong and monstrous lobsters and squids, and diabolical mad scientists that transform into vicious piranha monsters. The comic will deliver on everything fans loved from the hit show and the tone of its era, from the Sharks riding cool motorcycles to eating a lot of burgers and metal while swimming through the city’s concrete to take down the bad guys.
