Blades of Fire forges its way to consoles and PC today

From 505 Games and MercurySteam, Blades of Fire tasks players with forging their arms, and then wielding them against a dark-fantasy world.

Smithy to warrior

If you’ve ben following along with the development of MercurySteam’s Blades of Fire, then you know that it might be one of the more interesting action titles to come along in a while. That’s because this particular sword and sorcery actioner uses a ‘forging’ mechanic that sees hero Aran de Lira actually hit the forge to smith his own weaponry.

Seven different weapon “families” are available in the game, according to the developer, and a collection of 30 “Forge Scrolls”. Using a combination of all of that, players can create “almost infinite weapon combinations” to use in combat. Which weapon you choose to outfit Aran with sounds pretty important as well, since only certain ones will be able to “overcome” certain enemy armor.

And if you’re going to defeat the armies of the game’s wicked queen, then you’re going to need all the help you can get. Blades of Fire will throw 50 enemy types at players, each one with its own “unique attack style, weapon, and armour setup. ”

You are Aran de Lira, firstborn of the King’s Ward fighting the forces of the evil Queen Nerea who wields the power to turn steel into stone, rendering all resistance to her tyranny utterly futile. Featuring a groundbreaking combat and weapons mechanic, only you can forge and master near countless weapon varieties in your mission to bring her reign to an end.

Blades of Fire is the culmination of years of passion, innovation, and storytelling from the incredible team at MercurySteam,” said Neil Ralley, President of 505 Games. “We can’t wait for players to dive in and forge their legend.”

505 Games press release

Blades of Fire is out now for the PC (via Epic Games Store), Xbox Series X|S, and PS5.
