Take up arms as a member of a PMC in a futuristic Latin American mega-city that’s on the brink of collapse in La Quimera.
Ciberpunk/ciencia ficción
The relatively new studio known as Reburn has a lot of talent behind it. Formerly known as 4A Games Ukraine, Reburn stocks some of the minds behind games like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and of course the famed Metro 2033 series. And while the company will be staying with an apocalyptic feel for its next title, it’s also wholly new and altogether different from either of the above.
In stead of Eastern Europe, La Quimera takes place in South America, in a “megalopolis overrun by technological collapse, sinister corporate dealings, and multiple factions fighting for their own tomorrow”, according to the developer. Sound cyberpunky? It did to us too, but Reburn calls La Quimera a “narrative sci-fi shooter”, and from the looks of it, that set of tags fits well enough.
Playable with one to three players (in online co-op fashion), this is one cyber-adventure that’s packing plenty of action.
Set in and around the fictional Latin American mega-city of Nuevo Caracas, the game tells the story of a down-on-their-luck PMC group caught up in a vast conflict between rival factions and shadowy corporations, as mystical events increasingly blur the line between reality and illusion. Exosuits provided by one such benefactor allow players to engage in intense combat, utilizing high-tech gadgetry and superhuman strength to outwit their enemies.
Reburn press release
Both the world and narrative behind La Quimera were crafted by Nicolas Winding Refn (who you might know from Drive and The Neon Demon) and E.J.A. Warren. Even though we saw a decent amount of it in the trailer too, don’t assume that the city of Nuevo Caracas will be the only setting for this actioner. According to the press release, La Quimera‘s campaign will spill into the surrounding jungles, and even some ruins, all of which will be stalked by “rogue robotic creatures”.
If your interest is as piqued as ours, then you’ll be happy to know that La Quimera is actually out right now for the PC, albeit in Early Access form. While it’s not ‘done’ just yet, Reburn says fans who grab an Early Access copy will be able to “provide critical feedback to Reburn as the ongoing game development continues with more features, better narrative and gameplay integration, additional levels that complete the game’s major story arcs, and refined pacing and combat design.”
You can find the Early Access version of La Quimera on Steam, with a price tag of $29.99 USD.
