Action RPG Dragonkin gets timed demo ahead of Steam Next Fest

One of the most promising looking aRPG’s on the way to PC, Studio EKO’s Dragonkin: The Banished has a demo you can try now.

Alert the dragon’s next of kin

It’s a rough year for games with ‘dragon’ in the title, but Studio EKO’s action RPG will be looking to change that when it hits the PC this fall. But before we get to Dragonkin: The Banished‘s eventual launch, there’s a demo for the game that you can download and play right now.

Kinda/sorta part of the latest Steam Next Fest, the Dragonkin demo is actually hitting a few days ahead of the storefront’s periodic event. In it, prospective players can engage the game’s prologue, which features its characters at pretty high levels already.

There they’ll field their pick of a selection of three heroes across two biomes, where they’ll meet NPC’s and of course battle plenty of foes.

A few days before Steam Next Fest, players will be able to get a sneak preview of the game’s universe, where they will play as a choice of 3 heroes, accompanied by one of the 4 available dragonets.

The demo begins with the game’s prologue, during which the characters are already at a high level, giving players a glimpse of each character’s power and the advanced skills that will enable them to take on the dragons. They can then discover the City of Montescail, an evolving hub where players can upgrade their equipment, trade with NPCs and personalise their experience. Finally, they can access one of the endgame modes, Dungeon Purification, where they face enemies and bosses of 2 biomes.

Studio EKO press release

Dragonkin: The Banished‘s demo will be available from now through March 3rd, 2025. Don’t fret though if you like what you play, as the title will be heading to Early Access sooner than later. That period will open up open March 6th, so if you’d like to buy in, you won’t have long to wait at all.

Early Access will open up the first chapter of the game’s main story, and send players on a hunt for the Poison Dragon Lord. Scroll down to see the official word on what it’ll serve up.

After the game has been released into Early Access, players can dive into the first chapter of the story, on the trail of the Poison Dragon Lord.  In endgame, players can choose from a range of predefined hunts of increasing difficulty, as well as Dungeon Purification, boss fights and customised hunts. Exhilarating battles await against the poisonous and electrically-powered creatures featured in these early environments. To get the better of them, players will need to rely on the new Ancestral Grid skill system. By looting Fragments during their adventure, they will obtain new skills and modifiers that they can match to their class Grid to create truly unique builds. What’s more, the City will come to life with a host of new services: players will be able to level up their city to unlock new merchants and bonuses, enabling them to optimise builds and itemise heroes in the Hack’N’Slash style.
