Boasting a simultaneous launch for the first time in series history, Sid Meier’s Civilization VII has officially arrived.
Time to build
Whether you’re a long time fan, or someone who hasn’t yet played, the launch of Sid Meier’s Civilization VII is kind of a big deal. Well, to us it is anyway. We’re of the mind that there are certain series’ in video-gamedom that, when a new entry drops, are marquee events. And again, as far as we’re concerned, Civ is every bit on that list.
Sid Meier’s Civilization VII hails of course from 2K and developer Firaxis Games, and is the latest release in a line that has a legacy counting back to 1991. Sid Meier and Bruce Shelley crafted the very first Civilization for the PC then, though the turn-based series has exploded since.
According to 2K, the game series has totaled some 73 million copies (globally) over its life, and has hit a particular milestone as of today. That being that this is the first time that it’s seen a simultaneous release, for both the PC and consoles.
As you’ll see in the launch trailer below too, Civ once again looks like it might have delivered something special.
In Civilization VII, strategic decisions shape the unique cultural lineage of an evolving empire. You rule as one of many legendary leaders from throughout history and steer the course of your story by choosing a new civilization to represent your empire in each Age of human advancement. Construct cities and architectural wonders to expand territory, improve civilization with technological breakthroughs, and conquer or cooperate with rival civilizations as you explore the far reaches of the unknown world. Pursue prosperity in an immersive solo experience or play with others in online multiplayer.*
