Ubisoft has released another new look at Assassin’s Creed Shadows, this time detailing how you’ll explore old Japan.
Form the Shadows
Whether you’re into what Ubisoft is cooking up with Assassin’s Creed Shadows or not, the next installment of the saga is indeed coming up pretty soon. After several delays, the game will be hitting retail in March, and bringing fans their first look at its version of feudal Japan.
Recently Ubisoft has been ramping up with more looks at the game, and that continues today with the Exploration System Fundamentals. A post on the official site for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the new sneak peek includes a collection of videos that detail how you’ll be exploring in the game’s world.
The new title will have a world map, but it’s more general than what you might be used to from the series, showing “region names and drawings” that hint at the various natures of locales. The more you explore and discover, the more will be added to your map, which is in line with what we’ve seen before, but is just a tad more encouraging towards exploring.
Viewpoints are a little different too this time, because while they will be fast-travel points they also will only note points of interest (and the like) instead of detailing chunks of the map. Getting to them will also play differently depending on which of the game’s heroes you’re fielding. Naoe can climb up, while Yasuke will have to take stairs, battling guards as he goes.
Other alterations to the usual formula include the lack of any eagle to serve as your eyes from above, meaning you’ll have to scope out targets yourself before engaging. That’s plus the use of scouts that’ll change things in a major way by revealing locations, smuggling resources, and canceling alerts, an objective board, safe houses, and much more.
