The war against the bugs comes to VR with Starship Troopers: Continuum

The bugs ave arrived in virtual reality, with in Starship Troopers: Continuum, complete with actor Casper Van Dien reprising his role.

It’s afraid

So how’s this for cool? Starship Troopers has been seeing a bit of a renaissance as of late, and that’s now brought the sci-fi/action property to virtual realty. Even so, we didn’t have Starship Troopers: Continuum on our radar here at BG.

XR Games and Sony Pictures Virtual Reality‘s new title looks pretty slick though, and has some awesome callbacks to the movie version of the famed Robert A. Heinlein novel. We’re not talking about just the bugs’ designs either, as actor Casper Van Dien is back as Rico.

But even so, this isn’t the same war as you remember, as Starship Troopers: Continuum casts players as a powerful psychic called a PsyCommander. Even though you’ll be in command of mental powers in the game, you won’t be unarmed. Starship Troopers: Continuum touts a 20+ weapon deep arsenal, and an interesting optional manual reload system. Not only will that up the realism a bit, but it will also reportedly be faster than handling it automatically.

Players are going to need that speed too, since the bugs from the movie are not only back, but they’ve brought some new friends.

Featuring Casper Van Dien reprising his role as the legendary ‘Johnny Rico’, Starship Troopers: Continuum is set 25 years after the Battle of Klendathu. The war between the Federation and the Arachnid is deadlocked, but the planet Janus-4 holds a secret that threatens to tip the balance of the war: The Continuum.

Sony Pictures Virtual Reality press release

Starship Troopers: Continuum supports solo and online co-op, with up to three players. Players can grab a copy now via the Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest 3, and Meta Quest 3S. The game is on the way to the PSVR 2, but won’t arrive on that platform until a little later this month, on November 25th.
