Fifth Painkiller DLC arrives with Heavens Above

Nordic Games and The Farm 51 keep the downloadable content train rolling with Heavens Above, the latest DLC for Painkiller: Hell & Damnation. This one’s a whole lot different than anything that’s come before though.

No, thy eyes do not deceive- this is a top down add-on for Painkiller: HD. The necromantic shooter has always been played from the first-person perspective, but Heavens Above changes all that with a birds eye view of the action. It essentially makes Painkiller: HD into a top down shooter, which is awesome no matter how you slice it.

“We’ve made a commitment to release several DLCs throughout this year to ensure that we provide players with the best Painkiller experience possible,” said Reinhard Pollice, Business & Product Development Director at Nordic Games. “It started as an internal idea, then we prototyped Painkiller with top-down gameplay and it looked promising so we were eager to further explore the idea which ultimately led to this DLC. We know that this has the potential to be something bigger but at the moment we’re looking forward to offer this rare experience to our community and are excited to see their reaction.”

Well, if I’m anything to go by then the reaction is going to be overwhelmingly positive, because I’m thinking this is an excellent notion. I love FPS’, but occasionally I do like something different in terms of gameplay, while at the same time keeping the action fast and furious. With that in mind, it looks like Painkiller: HD’s Heavens Above DLC might just fit the bill.

The pack includes five campaign maps; Graveyard, Town, Babel, Angkor, and Pentagon. Players can tackle these fields of battle in either single or co-op modes and all of the usual Painkiller weapons are in play along with a new assortment of environmental hardware like the howitzer and some new traps.

Heavens Above is available now to add onto your copy of Painkiller: Hell & Damnation for the PC and will cost you $7.49 till June 27th when the introductory sale comes to a close- then you’ll be looking at $9.99 for your ticket through Hell.

I should also note that Painkiller: HD is still in line for an appearance on the Xbox 360 and the PS3- you can expect to see that version of the game materialize on the 28th of this month.
