Here’s something you don’t see every day. Yukes will be crafting a brand new series of wrestling games to rival their own WWE titles.
Yes, it’s just as weird as it sounds
WWE is the only game in town when it comes to pro wrestling TV shows. Or rather, it was for a long time. Just announced today is that AEW will have its own show on TNT, who hasn’t been in the wrestling business since the demise of WCW.
But what about video games? AEW is pretty new as a federation, and doesn’t have a licensed game out there. And the Fire Pro series is more than a little bit niche as fan bases go. So might the WWE still be the relative lone dog in that arena? As of today, that answer also is no.
As far as it sounds, there’s no license for this one, but there will be a rival wrestling title out there. The kicker is that it’s also from Yukes, who recently released WWE 2k19.
Yukes’ Hiromi Furuta explained things to website VGC, saying that she wasn’t overly thrilled with what the developer had been producing with the WWE line. Though some might agree with that, 2k19 was pretty fun my my standpoint.
And if you are a fan of the series, don’t worry. Since Yukes will retain the license and team, the WWE series will still be rolling. Presumably we’ll actually be hearing something pretty soon about what WWE 2k20 will have in store.
What the company is cooking up now though, is something all together new. Again there’s no word on any kind of license, so this new game might be completely original. Or maybe it could be something that relies entirely on community creations.
That’s just guessing though, as there’s no info to go off of right now. Read the full interview at the link below, and then hang on. Hopefully we’ll have more about this one come E3.
