Fox n Forests launch date revealed, brings 16bit gameplay back next month

Hitting for all the major platforms simultaneously, Fox n Forests is almost here. Bonus Level Entertainment’s ode to the era of the SNES shows off its retro look and season-changing mechanics in this fresh trailer.

The perils of fungus

Rick the Fox, armed with a magical crossbow, must master its powerful ability to change between two seasons within each level. Create new platforms out of falling leaves in autumn, freeze surroundings in winter, and use other powers at his disposal. Only by mastering the seasons will Rick be able to outfox his enemies, explore the mystic forest, solve brain-teasing puzzles, claim victory against colossal bosses, and bring the mystery of the fifth season to light.

That was the Fungus Forest in that trailer right there, and I am absolutely loving it. It’s retro-styled yes, but it doesn’t seem like it’s trying too hard to be. To me it just kinda looks like the developer (Bonus Level) “gets it”. Like Fox n Forests actually is a game that actually did come out on the SNES (or maybe the Genesis). And that season-changing mechanic looks slick as hell.

Don’t mind me, I’m just really digging this.

If you are too, then you’ll probably be happy to know that the game is on track, and finally hitting on May the 17th. Expect it for the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
