A new FPS from Madcraft paints a Boomer Shooter of a picture. The horror blaster Painted in Blood is out now in Early Access.
Paint Early Access red
We have to admit that we haven’t been keeping tabs on Painted in Blood, a title from developer Madcraft. We kind of wish we had, because the first-person shooter is looking like it might be something special. That might be doubly true too, if you like the whole Boomer Shooter trend.
The game has just launched on Steam’s Early Access platform for the PC, and is described as a “love letter to classic single-player horror shooters of decades past”. So does that mean it was inspired by some of the classics? That’d be the gist. Painted in Blood nods towards the likes of Doom 3, KISS: Psycho Circus, and Undying.
Do those mentions get your interest piqued? Well, then do yourself a favor and check out the launch trailer.
Chills, thrills, and blasting aplenty there, and just in time for Halloween. Not that what’s just hit Steam is the entire game though. As mentioned, today’s is the Early Access release, so the full title has some way to go yet, until it’s retail-bound.
Be that as it may, the Early Access release does includes the first chapter of Painted in Blood, a third of the game’s action.
Painted in Blood walks the line of sanity
Horror games that have effective sanity elements to them aren’t all that common. That’s true even in an age where there are oodles of Lovecraftian titles out there. It is something that Painted in Blood will look to stock however.
According to the press release, the Sanity System is “unique”. It definitely sounds all of that, as it can change “the course of both gameplay and visuals based on your mental state and performance.” How’s that for being able to shake up a play-through?
Keeping your composure might not be an easy task either, given the game’s cadre of cadaverous foes. So it’s a good thing that players will have plenty of hardware to wield against them, like the Stinger, Cricket, and Shredder.
Like we said above though, what you see in the currently available version of the game isn’t all there’ll be to it. Madcraft hints at plenty more to come, as the game makes its way through Early Access. It will be in the category for what sounds like a while too, or until “all chapters have been released and fully polished”.
