Big screen barbarian reboot Deathstalker gets a first trailer, heads to theaters this October

The medieval muscleman is back in action, as niche ’80s barbarian series Deathstalker is heading to the big screen this fall.

Stalker!

As we’ve been reporting, Deathstalker is indeed back on the pop culture landscape. The property, which had been in stasis since 1991’s Deathstalker IV: Match of the Titans, is now seeing a surprising resurgence. That’s come by way of comic book releases thus far, but the Stalker train isn’t stopping there.

This October will see the anti-hero’s full cinematic reboot, as he hits theaters once again, for what looks to be a full reboot. Starring Daniel Bernhardt in the title role, and from Shout! Studios and director Steven Kostanski, the film now has a first trailer to goo along with its October 10th release date.

While it does look like it takes itself a little more seriously than the classics, this new flick most definitely has some of the personality brought over. That much is evident from the action on display here, as it’s looking both over-the-top in terms of blood and guts, and practical. We’re sure there’ll be some modern effects in there as well, but those monsters are looking in line with the originals.

And yes, that’s a good thing.

In Deathstalker, the Kingdom of Abraxeon is under siege by the Dreadites, heralds of the long-dead sorcerer Nekromemnon. When Deathstalker recovers a cursed amulet from a corpse-strewn battlefield, he’s marked by dark magick and hunted by monstrous assassins. To survive, he must break the curse and face the rising evil. Death is just the beginning… of great adventure!
