Deathstalker reboot making its way to theaters this October

The reboot of cult classic, 80s barbarian flick Deathstalker is coming to theaters, hacking and slashing its way to a fall launch.

Heroes and fools… are the same thing

Who remembers Deathstalker? A mighty movie from the now-lost age of the barbarian film, Deathstalker was funded by B-movie legend Roger Corman. It incorporated a good chunk of the themes from bigger budget productions, like Conan, but didn’t play it anywhere near as safe. As fans well know, this warrior wasn’t afraid to amp up the harder elements of the genre, and to a pretty high degree.

It was also a pretty big success for its time, spawning a trio of followups. And it’s still a pretty big name in the corner of fiction that it occupies as well, with plenty of fans even today. That’s probably one of the reasons why it’s being rebooted, and heading back to theaters with this fall’s Deathstalker.

For those eagerly awaiting its return, you won’t have all that long now. The theatrical release date has just been revealed, and will see the movie opening up in just about two months, on October 10th. Just a heads up though, as this won’t be the same film that you might’ve seen.

Decidedly not a remake, the 2025 version of Deathstalker will have all-new characters and a brand new plot. Though there’s no trailer just yet, you can catch some of the plot points in the description below. Still, even though it will tell a different tale, that’s not to say that this new version of the movie won’t be in the same spirit as the classic.

Directed by Steven Kostanski and starring Daniel Bernhardt in the title role, Deathstalker will make use of “creature suits, prosthetic FX make-up and stop-motion animation” from Kostanski’s Action Pants FX shop. And if you’ve seen the original, then you know that could be a very good thing.

In Deathstalker, the Kingdom of Abraxeon is under siege by the Dreadites, heralds of the long-dead sorcerer Nekromemnon. When Deathstalker recovers a cursed amulet from a corpse-strewn battlefield, he’s marked by dark magick and hunted by monstrous assassins. To survive, he must break the curse and face the rising evil. Death is just the beginning… of great adventure!
