SDCC ’25: The Swat Kats are back with new comic poised to hit Kickstarter

Not really seen since the 90s, the Swat Kats are on the way to Kickstarter with a fresh comic that includes the property’s creators.

Get tactical

They’re back. Or, at least, that’s the plan according to the announcement made at SDCC last week. it all shakes out to mean that classic cartoon Swat Kats is coming to Kickstarter, and looking to crowd-fund a brand new comic book.

The title will hit the platform via Kevin Roditeli’s Roditeli Productions and the original show’s creators, Christian and Yvon Tremblay. With that, the adaptation of the 1993 ‘toon seems like it definitely has the pedigree to do the property’s first ever comic justice.

Fans have been asking for new Swat Kats adventures for more than three decades; here it is, with this first comic teased as ‘MegaKats City has Fallen.’ This marks the beginning of more Swat Kats content in various forms and mediums to come.

“ We are absolutely thrilled to bring new storytelling to the Swat Kats universe. We are equally excited that such outstanding collaborators are joining us in this first ever comic book series.” – Tremblay Bros.

Roditeli Productions press release

While there aren’t a ton of details available just yet, the team that Roditeli Productions has put together sounds stellar. First, there are the Tremblay’s, but they’ll be joined by “DC’s Batman & Milestone editor” Joseph Illidge, and artist Jorge Corona. Recognize that last name? You might, since Corona has put in work at both DC and Image, and Swat Kats would be his first series since his run on the latter company’s hit Transformers ongoing.

As for the story and script, the writing corps includes Roditeli himself, the author of Bad Omens: Concrete Jungle and Washed In The Blood, with Frank J. Barbiere. Another name you likely know, Barbiere worked on “Marvel Comics’ Avengers, DC’s Lobo, and popular Image Comics series Violent Love and Five Ghosts“, according to the press release.

Swat Kats is looking to land on Kickstarter some time this fall. If you’d like to get a notification when it arrives, click here to add your name to the list. Want some quotes from the hopeful team-to-be? Scroll down.

From the team…

“I’m honored and excited to be contributing to the world of the Swat Kats. As a fan who grew up and was inspired by the action and excitement of the original series, I’m working hard with the team to deliver an energetic, modern take that will thrill longtime fans and a new audience ready for the Radical Squadron.” – Frank J. Barbiere

“From being a kid watching the show and filling notepads with different missile designs sketches for the Turbo Kat to now being part of the first comic iteration of The Radical Squadron… it’s pretty awesome!” – Jorge Corona

‘Swat Kats comics had to happen! Badass Kats, Jets, cars, crazy weapons, explosions, and over-the-top villains — This should have been a fan-favorite comic franchise for years, now is the time, and with a KILLER creative team! I’m grateful to the Tremblay Bros for trusting me in bringing the Swat Kats for the first time to comic readers – We will do it right and for the fans.’’ – Kevin Roditeli
