SDCC ’25: Tyler Kirkham bringing 80s/90s action to life this November with Final Boss

Image Comics is readying a new series from creator and artist Tyler Kirkham, as Final Boss launches into all out action this fall.

This isn’t even my final form

Take 80s and 90s action movie nostalgia, mix it with classic beat ’em up video games. While you’re at it too, throw in some of the superhero action of the original Image Comics. What do you get? Well, according to Tyler Kirkham, you get Final Boss, an action series that will see the creator and artist make his Image debut.

The title is setting up to arrive in stores this November, and will tell the tale of one Tommy Brazen. It seems Tommy’s found himself imbued with super-powers and has rolled that into a violent new life. But it’s not completely an all-new, all-different existence that this new star finds himself in.

Apparently, it’s also a life that might lead him to some revelations about his past.

Prepare for an over-the-top adventure that’s a high-octane nod to classic action stories. Trying to forge a new path, Tommy Brazen uses his newfound powers for various paid enforcer gigs and street fights, only to uncover a past far more complex than he ever imagined.

Final Boss is a culmination of everything I loved growing up as an ’80s and ’90s kid,” said Kirkham. “From the fan-favorite action heroes and beat ’em up arcade games to the groundbreaking energy of early Image comics. It’s a no-holds-barred nostalgic action adventure!”

Look for Final Boss #1 to Alan in stores this November, along with those impressive variants that you see above. And if you’re at SDCC this weekend, make sure to stop by Artists Alley, where you’ll find Kirkham at booth #5012
