The 90s sensation Youngblood is back, and ready to make a splash at Comic Con, courtesy of creator Rob Liefeld’s panel.
A grand return
It’s been a while since fans have seen Youngblood, Rob Liefeld’s superhero team that helped spearhead the Image Comics revolution back in the 90s. By 2024, the super-team hadn’t been around for a number of years, and it’d been even longer since Liefeld was involved with it. But that wouldn’t go much farther. Liefeld announced last year that he was indeed returning to the property, and now we’re seeing the result with Giant-Sized Youngblood #1.
The new title will find the team on a mysterious island, wrapped up in a tale that’ll bring together heroes both familiar and fresh.

“Giant Size Youngblood is a comic I have wanted to make my entire life,” says Liefeld. “It’s my love letter to Giant Size X-Men #1, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. That comic is what made me fall in love with comic books, and I couldn’t let the moment pass without creating my own unique tribute.”

All things considered, the above news is great for fans, but we’re not sure what the future might hold for Giant-Sized Youngblood #1. A pre-order period has come and gone for the book, and whether it’ll get a retail release is unknown. So far we’re unaware of any such announcement anyway, though we have to imagine there’s something cooking at some point, especially since a new series has launched.
One thing is for sure though, in that Rob Liefeld will be bringing a total of 400 copies to SDCC later this month. Those copies will be split across four different variant covers, and will be given out exclusively at the Youngblood creator’s signing session, at booth #5568. So if you want a copy, as far as we’re aware, that’d be the only way to get one at present.
On top of that though, Liefeld will be holding a panel presentation as well, which’ll take place on first full day of the show, Thursday, July 24th. There the artists and writer will be discussing the “direct-to-fan publishing model” he’s using, as well as the future of Youngblood.

Attendees will get a behind-the-scenes look at the remastered collector’s editions and hear firsthand what’s next for the team that helped launch Image Comics more than three decades ago. This appearance marks Liefeld’s 44th San Diego Comic-Con, cementing his status as a defining voice in the comics industry and a fan-favorite mainstay of the convention.
