Transformers: The Movie’s Megatron is finally making his Studio Series debut, but he wasn’t all that was revealed yesterday.
Such heroic nonsense
With a few years in the bag, Hasbro’s Transformers: The Movie-based Studio Series line has had a pretty glaring omission to date. Of course, that was Megatron, the original form of the Decepticon leader who would become Galvatron in the classic animated flick.
It wasn’t all that clear cut as to how Megatron would make his arrival in a line that’s meant to accurately reflect what was seen on screen though. The villain did transform into a ‘blaster’ (as Hasbro calls it) after all, and how you’d translate that in the modern era, where there are actual laws against such a thing for kids, was a mystery. Yesterday though, we got the official answers, and the solution is actually pretty awesome.

Let’s get it out of the way right up front though, and say that the Studio Series ’86 Megatron doesn’t transform into a pistol. If you guessed the conversion was going to be into a tank, you get the no-prize. And though it’s not film-accurate, it’s nonetheless a pretty cool looking tank. But that’s not to say that the character’s original transformation won’t be included at all, as it definitely will, in the form of a mini-blaster that’s patterned after the original, but sized to be used by other figures. A good compromise? We’d say so, especially since you can actually pose a Starscream figure (or whoever) with it on your shelf. Oh, and the actual figure in robot mode? Yeah, it’s pretty incredible.
Other than Megatron, Grimlock will finally be reissued, so if you missed out on the Dinobot leader the first time a few years back, you’ll have another crack at adding him to your collection. Alongside him too, Scavenger and Mixmaster got their official reveals, adding to fans’ ability to form the Studio Series ’86 Devastator.
Outside of the classic film, Transformers: One’s Starscream is on his way, along with Thundercracker from the War for Cybertron video game. Both of those art in addition to a piece of Bayverse concept art that’ll be coming to that Studio Series collection, with the KSI Widow.
All of the above are up for pre-order now via Hasbro Pulse and other online retailers, and you can scroll down for the official text on each.
