Konami’s Switch 2 exclusive Survival Kids brings back a Game Boy Color classic

Publisher Konami reached back in time for its first Switch 2 title, resurrecting an island-bound adventure called Survival Kids.

Survive, if Konami lets you

Did you see Survival Kids‘ trailer at yesterday’s Nintendo Direct? Well, did you know that the survival title is actually based on a game that launched from the very same publisher in 1999? A lesser known game that’s garnered quite a bit of acclaim in the decades since launch, Survival Kids originally debuted for the Game Boy Color.

Well, fast forward 26 years, and the new version hailing from developer Unity looks like it revisits the original’s basic themes. Players will still need to survive their shipwreck, craft items, and explore their new island digs, all on the way towards (hopefully) finding a way home. While that original game was more of a rough and tumble adventure though, and the new version takes a friendlier tone, not to mention a more social one.

The Switch 2’s Survival Kids includes a quartet of kids, with an eye towards bringing them together via seamless co-op gameplay. Would-be explorers will need the help too, as the tale shakes out to tell the story of an old map, and voyage that’s set to take a magical turn…

Players take on the role of four curious kids who, after discovering a tattered map, set sail on a fateful journey – only to be swept into a mysterious hidden world. Stranded across a chain of uncharted islands resting on the backs of Whurtles (whale-turtle creatures), they must rely on teamwork to explore, gather resources, and craft essential tools. With support for both local and online co-op, up to four players can chop, cook, fish, and solve environmental puzzles. All while facing the unpredictable dangers of their surroundings.

Konami press release

Survival Kids will be exclusive to the Switch 2, and will be released day and date with the console, on June 5th.
