Nightdive’s “The Thing” remaster getting physical for Switch and PS5

Switch and PS5 players looking to build out their physical libraries might want to pre-order a copy of The Thing: Remastered.

And another Thing

Fans of the original The Thing game got what looked to be a pretty nice updating of that early 2000’s actioner, with December’s The Thing: Remastered. From Nightdive Studios, the revision bumped up the look of that title a decent amount, thanks to the KEX Engine.

Just like in the original game, the recreation sent players back to Outpost 31, but after the events of the movie and in the boots of Captain J.F. Blake. There fans had to take on the beasts that remained in the facility, and do so via both direct action and command of a squad of soldiers. Of course, not all of those troopers may still be human…

While the above version of the game was digital only, Nightdive has just revealed that some boxed copies are on the way as well. Those will come this summer, landing only for the PS5 and Switch, and are set to hit retail in two flavors.

Naturally there’ll be a standard edition of The Thing: Remastered, which will solely include a copy of the game on physical media, but there’s also going to be a Deluxe Edition. And as you’ll see below, that little pack is loaded up with quite a bit more.

The Thing: Remastered Deluxe Edition includes:

  • Physical copy of the game
  • Deluxe Edition box
  • Steelbook Case
  • Key art poster
  • Captain Blake’s ID card replica
  • Sew-on patches

Nightdive Studios press release

Both versions you see above are up for pre-order now via “Atari’s website, Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, GAME, Target, Walmart, and more”, according to Nightdive. In a cool little twist too you can look for the two physical versions to arrive on June 25th. What makes that so cool? Well, the date so happens to be the 43rd anniversary of the movie’s theatrical debut.
