It’s a spooky return to comics for the Ghostbusters, in Dead Man’s Chest

Dark Horse is setting up to bring the post-Afterlife Ghostbusters back to comics once again, this time for a piratical romp through NYC.

Set firmly in the new era of Ghostbusters, and taking place after Ghostbusters: Afterlife, is Dark Horse’s upcoming spectral comics mini-series, Ghostbusters: Dead Man’s Chest. The title will serve as a second prequel to Frozen Empire, further filling in the gap between the movies.

In the new book, the notorious pirate Captain Kidd is back from the grave, and looking to make the city his new pirate’s den. And naturally, along with continuing to feel their way through life in the big town, it’ll be up to the new team of proton pack-wearing exorcists to stop him.

The new book will hail from writer David M. Booher, who’ll be joined by artist Aviv Or. Also on board are colorist Cris Peter, letterer Jimmy Betancourt, and famed illustrator Tyler Crook, who’ll provide the standard cover for the debut issue.

In Ghostbusters: Dead Man’s Chest, the Ghostbusters’ increasing notoriety is throwing them for a loop. While Trevor steadies himself by trying to plan a “friendiversary” celebration for him and Lucky, Phoebe meets someone who might be a real friend instead of just a social media follower. But friendships new and old have to take a back seat to more immediate concerns when a ghostly saber summons the ghost of Captain Kidd and threatens to transform NYC into a ghostly pirate town!

Dark Horse Comics press release

Ghostbusters: Dead Man’s Chest #1 (of 4) will look to add a chill to fans’ springtime, launching into stores on May 21st.
