Iconic fighter SNK vs Capcom: SVC Chaos gets a re-release (and it’s out now)

How’s this for a nice surprise? SNK has dropped the classic mashup fighting game, SNK vs Capcom: SVC Chaos.

Fan-favorite

There’s no arguing that this past weekend’s EVO USA 2024 celebration was a big one. But while there was no shortage of news to come out of the fighting-celebration, one of the biggest nuggets was SNK vs Capcom: SVC Chaos.

The classic fighter, which first debuted for the original Xbox, hasn’t been seen in about two decades at this point. So to see publisher SNK not only start talking about the game again, but announce an impending drop for consoles and the PC? Yeah, that’s big time.

SNK vs Capcom: SVC Chaos includes 36 different characters, selected from both SNK and Capcom’s legendary series’. We’re talking about heavy-hitters too, with the likes of Kyo Kusanagi, Terry Bogard, and Mai Shiranui  joining Ryu, Chun-Li, and Demitri. While the game should still play as you remember it, there are some modern improvements.

Both rollback netcode and online lobbies (for up to nine players) are no on tap, along with what sounds like an awesome tournament system. According to SNK, players can get “single-elimination, double-elimination, and round-robin formats” rolling, and really see who’s the best of the best.

But even that’s not all, as SNK vs Capcom fans can also expect to see some quality of life improvements. Those include a hitbox viewer, and “a rich gallery mode showcasing 80+ pieces of artwork, including key art and character portraits.”

Ready to rock? SNK vs Capcom: SVC Chaos is out right now for the PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC (via GOG). No, there’s no Xbox edition, which definitely strikes us as odd, since the original was an OG Xbox exclusive.
