It’s a big year for Transformers, and also an even bigger one for BotCon, the convention for all things Cybertronian.
Transform… and roll out
One of the most enduring and beloved brands out there, The Transformers have been around for a long time. Originally debuting in 1984, the Autobots and Decepticons immediately took the world by storm, capturing the imaginations of millions of kids and dominating pretty much any and all other ‘robot’ toy lines.
Now 40 years later, the still red-hot Transformers is celebrating a milestone anniversary, and so is BotCon. A convention that covers the line’s many incarnations over its four decades, BotCon is an annual favorite for faithful followers. This year organizers will be honoring that big 40th we mentioned above, plus BotCon’s own 30th birthday, when it opens its doors this June, in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
“We are thrilled to return BotCon to the Grand Wayne Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where it all began. This year commemorates two milestones– BotCon’s 30th anniversary and the 40th anniversary of Transformers. Transformers fans of all ages can connect, share stories, and enjoy memorabilia and other collectibles as we celebrate the Transformers legacy, past and present. BotCon is a convention dedicated to the fandom, which makes it truly special,” remarked Hany Agayby, BotCon showrunner and owner of Agabyss, a toy retailer based in Wisconsin.
BotCon press release
If you’re thinking of attending, then you might want to start saving up now. BotCon touts itself as “one of the largest exhibitions of Transformers toys, comics, and other collectibles”. Not that we want to give the impression that buying stuff is the only thing you can do at the event, as there’s a full spread of “custom classes, panels, vendors, cosplay, and exclusives” all planned out as well. Even that’s not all either, as we’ve yet to mention the guest list, with Gregg Berger, Bumper Robinson, Alec Willows, “and more” all attending.
Tickets are on sale now (via BotCon.com), with passes available for all four show dates, June 27th-30th, 2024. If you don’t buy ahead of time, you can also pick up passes at the door, though those will only be offered for Friday through Sunday. Just a little something to keep in mind while you plan.
