Auto-converting isn’t just for Autobots anymore, thanks to Robosen’s new Megatron

Robot-maker Robosen’s stunning lineup of auto-converting Transformers is getting bigger and just a bit eviler, thanks to Megatron.

Try and stop me Prime

If you’re a Transformers fan, then you probably know all about Robosen. In conjunction with Hasbro, Robosen has been making some of the coolest Transformers toys of all time, and of course we’re talking about the auto-converting series. So far, that’s a line that includes the Autobots leader Optimus Prime (two versions), Bumblebee, and the chief Dinobot, Grimlock.

Just today though, Robosen took the wraps off of another figure, and it’s a doozy. Bringing the line its first Decepticon, Megatron has been in the works for three years, and sports a conversion process that brings him from tank to robot and back. Users can interact with him via a mobile app, voice commands, or by a limited set of touch-sensitive panels on the ‘bot itself.

If you’ve loved what Robosen has made thus far, you’ve gotta check out Megatron.

“We have been eagerly waiting to launch the most incredible, high-end TRANSFORMERS robot available on the market,” said Hansen Su, Founder and CEO of Robosen. “Our engineers have brought Megatron to life! Through the 50 engaging actions built in – the original voice of Frank Welker – to the most amazing converting process we have been able to achieve. Megatron in either tank or robot mode will bring any fan pure joy when they see it for the first time!  It’s a beautiful product – we can’t wait for customers to get theirs!”

“Released in time for the TRANSFORMERS franchise’s 40th anniversary this year, the Flagship Megatron offers an exciting expansion to our existing line with Robosen as we introduce the first Decepticon to the mix. Now, fans can play out the battle between good and evil with stunning, state-of-the-art bots as we honor the franchise’s legacy and embark on the next four decades of action and adventure,” said Casey Collins, President, Licensed Consumer Products, Hasbro.

Robosen press release

Did you check out the trailer? If the voice sounded familiar, that’s because it was indeed the one and only Frank Welker. The man who voiced Megatron in the classic G1 animated show picks up the reigns again for this new figure, which sounds mighty great paired with the Peter Cullen-voiced Prime. Altogether Welker recorded some 270+ words and phrases for Megatron, which includes a selection of famous lines and all-new dialog.

Along with Megatron too, is the Mini-Theater. A feature built into the interactive app, Mini-Theater allows fans to “stage engaging scenes” with their Robosen figures, “bringing these beloved characters to life right before your eyes!” Just when these things couldn’t possibly get any cooler, they do.

Megatron stands in at 21″ tall, and comes stocked with 36 servo motors, and a staggering 118 microchips to power his actions. Speaking of actions, Robosen says that Megatron also includes a revamped “bipedal walking algorithm”, that should lead to smoother walking animation, and he also packs in 112 ultra-bright LEDs. Yes, 112.

The Flagship Megatron is currently up for pre-order via Robosen.com, and priced in at $899.99 USD. That price tag is just for an ‘early bird’ period though, and will expire after a 30 day window. After that he goes back to his regular price, which will be $1199 USD.
