Actor Dev Patel stars as Kid, in an all-out action extravaganza that’s roughly inspired by an ancient Hindu god.
What’s the plan, Hanuman
Do you know the legend of Hanuman? A god from the Hindu pantheon, Hanuman is a deity with the visage of a monkey, who is known for his power (and occasionally-massive height). He’s also part of the inspiration for the upcoming film Monkey Man, which looks to be one of the slickest action movies in recent years.
There’s been chatter online comparing Monkey Man to John Wick, and it’s easy to see why. The film follows main hero Kid, as he makes his way from being beaten nightly in fight clubs, to embarking on a bloody (and stylish) quest for vengeance.
Fueling the hard-hitting adventure, Dev Patel not only stars, but is also the director. On top of that, he also had a hand in crafting the screenplay, alongside writers Paul Angunawela and John Collee. The result is pretty great looking, and could be the next big thing for action fans.
Here’s the latest look at it:
nspired by the legend of Hanuman, an icon embodying strength and courage, Monkey Man stars Patel as Kid, an anonymous young man who ekes out a meager living in an underground fight club where, night after night, wearing a gorilla mask, he is beaten bloody by more popular fighters for cash.
After years of suppressed rage, Kid discovers a way to infiltrate the enclave of the city’s sinister elite. As his childhood trauma boils over, his mysteriously scarred hands unleash an explosive campaign of retribution to settle the score with the men who took everything from him.
Packed with thrilling and spectacular fight and chase scenes, Monkey Man is directed by Dev Patel from his original story and his screenplay with Paul Angunawela and John Collee (Hotel Mumbai, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World).
