Nintendo brings Super Smash Bros to College Gameday

If you’re a college football fan in the US Midwest and South, you’re going to have the chance to play around with Nintendo’s newest mascot fighter through the end of November.

College football gamedays are already something of a weekly holiday throughout the autumn, and now Nintendo is going to try and infuse a little more oomph into them thanks to Super Smash Bros on the 3DS and the Wii U. The publisher will be bringing both copies (yes, that illusive Wii U edition too) to the field all throughout the Fall and up to the end of November.

And these won’t just be ‘friendly’ games of Smash you’ll be playing either. Nintendo has a plan to set schools against one another see who smashed best when all the dust is settled.

“College football fans need to get their game faces on and their SuperSmash Bros. skills ready,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “Each week we’re going to track the number of Super Smash Bros. winners from each school and announce who comes out on top on Facebook, so bragging rights are on the line.”

Ready to join Mario and Luigi (yep, they’ll both be there) for some smashing settlements? Here’s your official schedule of events for the tour:

  • Oct. 4: LSU at Auburn
  • Oct. 11: Penn State at Michigan
  • Oct. 18: Georgia vs. Arkansas
  • Oct. 25: Alabama at Tennessee
  • Nov. 1: Florida vs. Georgia
  • Nov. 8: Alabama at LSU
  • Nov. 15: Florida State at Miami
  • Nov. 22: Louisville at Notre Dame
  • Nov. 29: Michigan at Ohio State
