IDW preps Locke and Key: Head Games ultra-exclusive edition

Fans of Locke and Key have a brand-new, limited edition tome to add to their collection – complete with a bunch of cool extras.

“As a writer, the IDW Limited Head Games is the stuff of daydreams, the kind of thing that seems like couldn’t exist in the real world,” said series writer and creator Joe Hill. “It’s a glorious presentation of Gabriel Rodriguez’s art, wrapped up in a giant, jaw-dropping, heart-breakingly beautiful hardcover. And that doesn’t even get into the extras.”

“It’s both an honor and a pleasure to see what IDW Limited is doing with these special editions of Locke & Key. The series went beyond our wildest dreams,” added Eisner award-winning series artist, Gabe Rodriguez. “To see these books made with such care and love, in this spectacular format, and with contributions from top-of-the-line artists, contributing their own fantastic and beautiful visions of Locke & Key’s mythology is a blessing. I hope readers will enjoy them even more as both Joe and myself are receiving this as a gift.”

That’s a beauté alright. The supernatural Locke and Key is a little bit of a niche series, but has a pretty strong fan base that I can’t imagine won’t be pleased as punch with this newly announced special edition. As Hill was saying, the book alone is a gorgeous focal point to the set presented by IDW, but it’s not the only cool thing about this pack.

Also included in this deluxe set is a photo portfolio, a limited edition Head or Echo key (made by Skeleton Crew Studios) that will be available nowhere else and finally- a secret compartment that holds pages from the Locke family journal. That’s a lot of cool for one book and if you’re a fan, the total package can’t be beat as a centerpiece of a collection.

As usual with these kinds of books from IDW, both a Black and Blue edition will be available. Both copies will include original artwork by David Petersen, Langdon Foss, Alan Robinson, and Jim Mahfood, but of course both Blue and Black will have some uniqueness to them. The Black Label books will be available in allotments of 10 copies per artist (listed above) and will have something very special indeed with that artist’s work printed on a sketchplate with a background by Gabriel Rodriguez. The Blue Label editions meanwhile, will feature a cover ‘interpretation’ by the spotlighted artist and will be available in a stunning three copies per penciler. Bottom line, if you want in on either one, hustle is a necessity. If you want the Blue version, you might need a little luck on your side too.

Both editions are available right now for pre-order on IDW’s website.
