What is privacy in the face of techno-evolution? Find out in Dark Horse’s Past Tense

Dark Horse Books is about to plunge headlong into a very uncomfortable future with Past Tense, a future that seems all too plausible.

The evolution of technology and the ‘being online’ has affected our world in undeniable ways. At times it’s kind of tough not to get a little wary, especially about where all of that is heading. After all, there’s no shortage of books, movies, and everything else about just that.

Now you can add a new one to the mix too, with Past Tense. From Dark Horse Books, the graphic novel spins out of the mind of Jason McNamara, who you might know from a graphic novel called The Rattler.

Past Tense varies from that proviso title however, in that it’s most definitely sci-fi. Though as you’ll see, it’s every bit the crime story.

Ashley is a tour guide at PAST TENSE, a company that sends camera drones into the past to view history’s most depraved events. When Ashley discovers Silas Green, an unknown serial killer working in the past, she begins hosting “exclusive” tours of his murders. The only problem? Silas is still alive in the present. And when he learns of his
newfound infamy, he is inspired to come out of retirement to make Ashley his final victim, now and forever.

Dark Horse Books press release

McNamara is joined by artist Alberto Massaggia for Past Tense, with Paul Little on colors and cover art from Alberto and Sonia Harris. As you can see, that part of the book is striking indeed, with the cover illustration appearing here.

Set for trade paperback format, Past Tense is set to arrive in comic shops on June 7th, 2023, and in bookstores on June 20th. You can pre-order it now, via AmazonBarnes & Noble, or your local comic shop or bookstore.
