Giger-inspired horror title Scorn coming just in time for Halloween

Yes, it’s finally got a release date. Gross-out horror title Scorn has a brand new look, some fresh details, and a release date just before Halloween.

Ew

One of the weirdest aesthetics in horror has got to be the work of H.R. Geiger. Though that’s not to say it’s ineffective, since the ‘biomechanical’ look is a huge part of why Alien is so cool. And it’s also what developer Ebb Software has crafted for FPS Scorn.

A game that’s been a few years in the making, Scorn was first shown off before the current generation of consoles were released. So yeah, it’s been a little while.

But if you thought Scorn was forgotten about, well you might want to reassess that since it’s actually coming out this year. And it’s looking every bit as nasty and twisted as horror fans could have hoped.

Debuted during the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase earlier today, the trailer centered on Scorn’s disturbing setting, a desolate hellscape once an industrial civilization that now lay in ruin. As players awaken isolated and lost within Scorn’s living labyrinth, they’re left to fend for themselves and find a way forward. Surrounded by visceral, fleshy contraptions and denizen creatures, every deadly encounter must be carefully considered with limited ammunition, health and resources. To unravel the mystery of the world around them, players will solve intricate puzzles on their search for unsettling answers and to slowly come to understand their existence.

As you can see from this latest look, Scorn is progressing nicely, and looking great. Unfortunately though, the Xbox showcase yesterday was a little light on the details. At this point, we do know that Scorn will put an emphasis on exploration and player progression. And from the sounds of things, it’s going to be a fight for survival as well. Fitting for the horror setting it exploits.

Scorn will creep onto the Xbox Series X|S and PC this October the 21st. Pre-orders are open now, though it will also be a day-one part of Game Pass.
