Even though the world wide release of Microsoft’s Gears of War 2 is still over a week away, this hasn’t stopped the Playstation fanboys from bombarding the Metacritic score. So far it has had over 3000 user votes which combine to give it a very poor score of 2.9 out of 10 before the game is even released. Metacritic’s Mark Doyle, the site’s game editor, has issued this statement on the Gear’s of War 2 page:
My advice for our faithful users is to focus your attention on the Metascore for this game and not the thousands of user votes, most of which have been submitted before said users have played the game.
Metacritic have had problems like this before with littlebigplanet and a few other exclusive titles, it seems fanboys really like venting their hate on Metacritic. This game looks amazing and I believe it will easily be the best title this year, I wouldn’t care if there were a million user votes I would still get it. The new issue of the Official Xbox Magazine, which is released tomorrow, will have the world’s first full Gears of War 2 Review. I am personally going to be to buying the magazine especially for this reason, I know it costs £5.99 but I believe it will be worth it. If Gears of War 2 gets anything other than a 10 I will be surprised, that is based on what I have seen personally. Just recently I have been playing a lot of the first Gears of War again just to get back into the swing of the game. Leave any comments on here or on the forum.

Most predictions where correct that the new Xbox Experience will go live on November 19th. The Xbox Experience brings a host of new features including avatars, new design and the ability to save games onto the hard drive. There has been much speculation on when this new update would launch, there has already been several small background updates to prepare for this, including when Xbox Live went down for 24 hours a few weeks ago. I am really looking forward to the update because I believe that the dashboard is really showing age, it has been around now for nearly 3 years after all.

I had a tip off from a friend who works at Sainsbury’s that this week they were going to be doing an amazing offer on the Xbox 360. So I have just been over to my local Sainsbury’s and discovered that they have got a huge offer on which started today. They are selling Xbox 360 Arcade consoles for less than hundred pounds, at £99.97, and Xbox 360 60GB for £139.97. The offer runs until October 12th but with these prices all of their stock will be gone within a few days. This price cut just makes me wonder what Sony are doing, there Playstation 3 is still over £300, they cannot compete with these prices. Playstation 3 is good, but it is not worth over double the price of an Xbox 360.

I noticed while watching the latest Gears of War 2 developer diary that a window in the corner opens when you become closer to an achievement. This is welcome news to me because in the first gears even when you reach the target amount the chances of it unlocking are unlikely. This new edition to the series should make getting the multiplayer achievements perfectly accurate and precise; I still have not been able to find out if the multiplayer achievements (for which there are loads) are obtainable in player or ranked. This game looks amazing and I think everybody should get it.

Today, NPD released the game sales figures for the US on the Xbox 360. The list was quite predictable in most aspects, with GTA4, Call of Duty 4 and Madden taking up the top spots obviously. Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 coming in at fourth but then a very surprising title in fifth place, Army of Two. EA somehow managed to shift 900,000 copies of this very average title, just showing how coop is what people want. Army of Two is also the only one of these games which is a completely new franchise. I bought Army of Two on launch and the game was a large amount of fun in coop but on its own the game is only mediore, maybe the American’s saw it differently.

More evidence has surfaced about the imminent launch of the Dashboard replacement, the Xbox Experience. An advert for MTV’s Rockband 2 has surfaced saying that you should “check out the New Xbox Experience coming in November”. Microsoft has, like always refused to comment, but the evidence is starting to show that a November launch is most likely. The Xbox Experience will bring a raft of new features, a whole new look and a brand new interface. One of the most talked about new features are the new avatars that each gamercard will have, Microsoft’s take on the Nintendo Mii. This update I think is a needed one, the dashboard has been around now for a while now and is showing age. Hit the jump to see the Rockband 2 Advert.

‘Life with Playstation’ launched last week to mixed opinions, but I personally believe this is the best program I have seen in a long time. Sony has always stated from launch that the PS3 would be the center of your home entertainment and I believe technology like this is starting to prove this point. ‘Life with Playstation’ has massive potential, endless possibility’s, that’s why I thought I would talk about some improvements that would make this amazing. This November 7th 3 of the most eagerly anticipated titles will be released, including Gears of War 2 from Epic, Resistance 2 from Insomniac games and Tom Clancy’s Endwar from Ubisoft. There is only really one question on my mind, where do I find the £120 it is almost undoubtedly going to cost? I have spoken before about Gears of War 2 and I know it is easily going to be the best title this year, this game could not come fast enough. I wasn’t initially sure about Resistance 2 but after what Sony showed at E3, this looks really impressive and is definitely worth a pick up. I was also lucky enough to be part of the Endwar Beta which to me has truly to revolutionised strategy games on the console, the voice recognition was amazing and groundbreaking. The game itself had its issues but with the voice control system it just worked, allowing you to control massive battles quickly. I wouldn’t be surprised if one of these titles is delayed by like a week just to break up this massive launch day. Which one of these will you be picking up, if any?

This review was originally meant to go out with the games release, however it became corrupt and I’ve only just managed to salvage it — Viatrophy.
EA’s new title Mercenaries 2: World In Flames is the sequel to the amazing and groundbreaking first Mercenaries, which was on the original XBOX. The first Mercenaries was special because it did the massive open world gameplay in which you could basically destroy everything, with great graphics and even a good storyline. I know EA have been working on Mercenaries 2 with Pandemic for a long time, years and years, so I did have high hopes for the game. I knew if they stayed with the basic structure of the first game they had the basis for an amazing title, they defiantly didn’t disappoint. Hit the jump to read the full review.

It appears that Microsoft are going to use the Winter dashboard update as a re-launch for the console after falling sales in North America. Sales fell 6.91% last month and I think Microsoft believe that a re-launch would energise sales again. Rumors are also floating around the internet about the new features of the Microsoft dashboard update and when it might arrive. Some rumors speculate that the update will arrive on September 25th, both Microsoft and the American television company covering the event refused to comment. I know Microsoft will keep the official date a closely guarded secret right until the very end. The rumors also describe some of the new features the update will bring, like Radio access, an Itunes style store and free original XBOX games. It also says that there is 12 unannounced XBOX 360 in production including Mass Effect 2 and 2 new Halo based games. Hopefully some of these features will become reality and the sooner the better, the update looks amazing.
