The Test Drive series returns with NACON’s Solar Crown

Announced last year, racing series Test Drive is coming back to consoles and the PC. Check out the first footage of Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown.

Welcome to test drive

Now here’s a name that we’ve not heard in a while. Test Drive, just in case you don’t know, was a pretty well-regarded racing series that came about fairly early in gaming’s history- way back in the 1980s. It had a long life too, running right up till 2012’s Ferrari-branded edition.

Since then it’s been on hiatus. But now here in 2021, publisher NACON has gotten ahold of the license. Together with developer KT Racing, they’re prepping what they say will be the first of many new entries in the series, with Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown.

A title that’s promised to “remain faithful to the franchise while adding a wide range of new touches”, Solar Crown also sounds like a thoroughly modern racer. The game will reportedly have “Dream cars, customization, avatars, competition, open world, casino and style”. So yeah, sounds like plenty to keep race fans happy.

Here’s the first look at it in action:

If you’re looking for more info, you have a little while to wait. NACON says that it’ll be ready to chat much more about Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown this coming July. So stay tuned.
