Vulture, Iron Man and more in Spider-Man: Homecoming trailer

Spider-Man’s first solo film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe gets a loaded first trailer. Iron Man and Vulture? You bet.

Does whatever a Spider can

SO much in there. So much to like, and yet also – so much to pick at if you’re a Spider-Man fan. And you better believe I am.

First off, let me say that I liked that look at Spider-Man: Homecoming a ton. There’s so much in there that rings true for the character of both the web-head and his alter ego, Peter Parker. Oh, and Vulture looks so much more badass than his comic book incarnation it’s not funny.

And not only does the Vulture flight-suit look awesome, but actor Michael Keaton seems properly creepy as Adrian Toombs. I wasn’t sure how he was going to translate to the character, but man does it work. Well, from this early look anyway.

So what’s not to like?

No, there isn’t much to dislike. As a Spider-Man fan though, I can’t say I’m crazy about Tony Stark being an overprotective father figure. I get why he is, and a lot of it does conveniently fit for elements of this version of Spidey. But I still don’t like it.

I also still don’t really care for the costume. Not in the way that I semi-despise the suit from the upcoming PS4 Spider-Man game (which otherwise looks awesome btw), but I don’t dig it. The web-wings though, are pretty neat. Nice callback to the origins of the wall-crawler.

So it’s a little of a mixed bag for me really, though there’s way more that I liked than disliked. And as usual, I’m looking forward to seeing more and checking out the film when it hits theaters next year.
