Check your own ‘warrior gene’ with Assassin’s Creed

A licensed Assassin’s Creed DNA test? I can’t believe I’m saying this, but that totally makes sense.

Are you a warrior?

Born of video game publisher Ubisoft, Assassin’s Creed traces its fictional familial lines back thousands of years. Starting in an ancient civilization and winding its way through a war between Assassins and Templars, the game’s narrative is exceedingly deep. It’s all fiction though. Or… is it?

Well, yes it is. While the main story is a work of fiction, Assassin’s Creed revels in historical fact however. And tracing bloodlines through DNA isn’t all that far-fetched either. No, you can’t jump into VR and live out an ancestor’s life, but you can discover (roughly) who your forebears were. And that’s what we’re talking about here.

Allied with Assassin’s Creed for the new movie (coming up this month), Family Tree DNA is looking to uncover whether or not you have the “Warrior Gene”. Part of FindMyPast, the service will track your own Warrior Gene and see what you’re made of.

And they’re not making that up either. the company says that there’s a gene on the X chromosome that actually is called the Warrior Gene. What’s it do? Well, having one causes more “warrior-like” qualities in the person. Pretty awesome.

Through December 31st of this year (2016), you can purchase a special Assassin’s Creed DNA Bundle. The pack will run you $89.99 USD and includes just about everything that you’ll need to know if you’ve got that magic gene.

Here’s what you get:

  • Warrior Gene DNA Test
  • Family Finder DNA Test + myOrigins
  • Findmypast Subscription

Pretty cool right? Could make a nice little Holiday gift for a big fan of the game series too. On top of the kit, you can also enter to win a Las Vegas trip. There you’ll actually train like one of the game’s heroes. Winners get “a master parkour class, nighttime zip lining and an unforgettable sky jump from the tallest tower in the city”. How cool is that?

You can get more info on the contest, and find out how you can grab one of the DNA kits, right here.
