ReRoll: Pixyul’s Ambitious survival game officially cancelled

2014, Pixyul Studio proposed an ambitious game named ReRoll. A true open world survival-action RPG with a promise to reproduce accurately, at scale the whole planet in the game. Sadly the ambitious survival game officially cancelled.

An official and lengthy announcement was posted a few days ago on Reddit. Phrasing “ReROLL is over. We want all of you to know that we gave our best shot and like you, we are extremely disappointed that ReROLL will not become a reality.”

ReRoll was the idea of Julien Cuny and Louis-Pierre Pharand, former developers of Ubisoft Montreal.

ReRoll was indeed an ambitious game; aiming to map out the whole planet using drones, to digitally recreate the true earth in the game. But it came with a big cost, and the money raised from the campaign and their personal investments was not enough.

Pixyul team struggled for months to find investors and publishers to secure ReROLL’s funding, but it didn’t work out either.

As compensation, Pixyul have offered the Kickstarter backers the copy of the “BIOS” (Pixyul’s other game). Some backers thought it was not that worth.

The crowdfunding in gaming is receiving significant attention nowadays, as it has proven a powerful mechanism for raising money and encouraging indie developers with creative ideas. But it’s worth noting, that crowdfunding projects always carry risks, for the backers as well as for the developers. Hence backers should always be confident, careful while considering a project for backing.

The Sad irony is that ReRoll was a Survival game that has failed to survive its own journey from development to a final funded ambitious game.
